Willow Tree pollarding in the Parklands
On 15th August the Parish Council took the advice of Sedgemoor Tree Services who carry out the parish’s annual tree survey regarding a willow tree in the Parklands. Concerns had been raised regarding the health of the tree, and the possibility that one of the branches could break and potentially injure any person or animal in the vicinity.
A parishioner has subsequently questioned the necessity for this work to have been carried out. Sedgemoor Tree Services have issued the following statement:
The pollarding of the Willow in the parkland area was to mitigate further collapse of the branch architecture and actively prolong the overall longevity of the tree. Pollarding is common practice and can significantly extend the lifespan of most tree species.
Therefore, the Parish Council is satisfied that the work was necessary for the health of the tree, and the safety of the users of the Parklands.
