Bus It campaign to safeguard four key bus routes

A single-deck somerset bus

Last year Somerset Bus Partnership launched the Bus It campaign to safeguard four key bus routes serving Somerset communities. As a result, passenger numbers increased on the four at-risk routes, and they are safe for the next year. You can read about it on the Somerset Council website.

They have now launched the next phase of their campaign to encourage people to use buses, particularly as the Government have extended the £2 price cap for single fares until December 2024.

None of the routes as risk has a direct connection to Wembdon. They are:

  • 25 – Taunton to Dulverton: stopping at: Taunton, Milverton, Wiveliscombe, Norton Fitzwarren, Cotford St Luke, Hillcommon, Waterow, Shillingford, Bampton, Langley Corner, Brushford, Dulverton
  • 28 – Taunton – Minehead: stopping at: Taunton, Norton Manor, Bishops Lydeard, Seven Ash, Bicknoller, Gliddons, Williton, Watchet, Washford, Dunster, Minehead
  • 54 – Taunton to Yeovil: stopping at: Taunton, Henlade, Wrantage, Thornfalcon, Fivehead, Curry Rivel, Pitney, Langport, Somerton, Ilchester, Yeovil

Temporary traffic lights sign

There will be temporary traffic lights at unspecified times on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th August on Quantock Road, between the Cemetery and Skimmerton Lane. This is to allow Wales & West Utilities to carry out unspecified repair and maintenance work.

These lights will be within the current temporary 20mph speed limit.

Wales and West Utilities say “We’re ready to take your call if you have any questions about our work. Call freephone 0800 912 2999, or contact us on Twitter @WWUtilities or Facebook.com/wwutilities.”

Overnight closures of A39 now 9th – 11th August

The overnight closures of the A39 are now expected to start on 9th August (instead of 2nd August) and to last for 2 nights (instead of 4). The closures will now be from 21:00 each evening (instead of 19:00) until 06:00 the following morning.

Quantock Road will be closed from a point east of Skimmerton Lane to Sandford Corner – see the first map – and New Road and Main Road will be closed from a point to the east of Blackmore Lane to the Cannington roundabout – see the second map.

The closures are for “prep works, surface dressing and associated works”.

The effect of these closures will be that there will be no direct access from Wembdon to Cannington and beyond, and access to Perry Green will be through Wembdon. The A39 traffic will not be diverted through Wembdon.

A signed diversion route will be in place, taking westbound traffic via the A38, Priorswood, and the A358, and eastbound in the reverse direction.

For any further information about these closures please contact Somerset Highways on 0300 123 2224 quoting reference SM11/0524 – SD007744 or SM13/0524 – SD007746 respectively.

Bus passenger feedback survey

A single-deck somerset bus

Somerset Bus Partnership would like to collect your opinions about the buses in Somerset, how they can be improved, and the major issues affecting your use of the bus. They will use the results of the online survey to help influence the future bus network in Somerset by sharing them with the media, bus operators, and Somerset Council. Your personal details including your name and email address will be kept confidential.

About Somerset Bus Partnership

Somerset Bus Partnership represents bus users.

They say “The Somerset Bus Partnership is recognised by Somerset Council and by both Buses of Somerset and First West of England as the organisation that represents bus users across Somerset.

“We support 12 Bus User Groups across Somerset, have over 150 local bus champions and run some 80 events a year in towns and villages across Somerset providing information about local bus services.

“Somerset Bus Partnership attends Somerset Council’s Bus Advisory Board. We also hold the Chair and Vice Chair of the Council’s Bus Users and Stakeholders Group where we set the agenda. Both these Boards meet quarterly.

“So in our meetings, we talk about what bus users want and explore if and how that can work financially for the bus operator, if it can, then they will action our suggestions. As examples, recently they have agreed to serve Yeovilton via the 54 and soon in Frome they will start to serve Commerce Park.”
